Partner projects

AI_INFN operates in close coordination with the most important initiatives on applications of Artificial Intelligence and High Performance Computing to Science.

INFN DataCloud

The computing infrastructure of AI_INFN lives within INFN Cloud, The distributed Cloud Provider of the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN).

ICSC - Italian Center for esearch in High Performance Computing, Big Data and Quantum Computing

A significant contribution to the AI_INFN community and infrastructure comes from the NRPP-funded ICSC center, connecting world-leading players in the landscape of computing such as CINECA, GARR and the WLCG.

TeRABIT

The GARR-led TeRABIT project is the NRPP-funded initiative to provide terabit-connections to the research institutes in Italy. High-Performance Computing sites, named HPC bubbles, ideal for Artificial Intelligence training, installed in major computing sites in Italy are federated into a distributed super-computer.

FAIR - Future Artificial Intelligence Research

FAIR - Future Artificial Intelligence Research is a foundation organizing the research on Artificial Intelligence with fundings from the NRPP. It coordinates 4 research institutes, 12 universities and 5 private companies.

About

AI_INFN is an initiative of the fifth committee of INFN to foster the adoption of machine learning and Artificial Intelligence technologies within the five research fields of the Italian Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN).

It operates since 2023, evolving the previous ML_INFN initiative.

It involves fourteen INFN units including INFN CNAF and ReCaS-Bari, providing the vast majority of the computing resources.

It is organized in four work-packages for Infrastructure, Stewardship, Scientific use-cases and Harware accelerators beyond GPUs, plus a Technical Board.

Activities are reviewed and steered in open weekly meetings on Mondays at 4pm, Rome time.
